The age of the candidate must be 18 to 23 years as on 01 January 2026, i.e. born not before 02-01-2003 and not later than 01-01-2008. Only the date of birth recorded in the Matriculation certificate is accepted.

SSC GD 2026 Selection Process
The SSC GD 2026 selection process has the following stages. Detailed scrutiny of documents happens late in the process, so candidates must verify their own eligibility before applying.
| Stage | Process |
|---|---|
| Stage 1 | Computer Based Examination (80 questions, 160 marks) — shortlisting for PET / PST based on merit within the qualifying marks. |
| Stage 2 | Physical Efficiency Test (PET) — race within the prescribed time. |
| Stage 3 | Physical Standard Test (PST) — height, chest and weight measurement. |
| Stage 4 | Detailed Medical Examination (DME) / Review Medical Examination (RME) and Document Verification by the CAPFs. |
| Stage 5 | Final merit and declaration of result with force allocation, based on CBE performance and force preference. |
Minimum Qualifying Marks in CBE
Candidates scoring the following minimum qualifying marks without adding NCC bonus marks are shortlisted to the next stage (PET/PST):
| Category | Minimum Qualifying Marks |
|---|---|
| Unreserved (UR) | 30% |
| OBC / EWS | 25% |
| All other categories (SC, ST, ESM, etc.) | 20% |
Shortlisting Norms
Male and female candidates are shortlisted state-wise, area-wise and category-wise on merit in the CBE (including NCC bonus marks, if applicable):
- For PET / PST: around 8 times the number of vacancies.
- For DME / Document Verification: around 2 times the number of vacancies, from among those who clear PET / PST.
Additional candidates can be shortlisted against SSF vacancies. The nodal force, CRPF, conducts the later stages.
Force Preference (Mandatory)
Every candidate must give preference for all seven (07) forces in order of priority at the time of filling the Online Application Form. Force allocation is based on merit-cum-preference — higher merit gets higher stated preference, subject to clearance of PET/PST, medical and other conditions. Preferences cannot be changed after application submission.
| Preference Code | Force / Organization |
|---|---|
| A | BSF (Border Security Force) |
| B | CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) |
| C | CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) |
| D | SSB (Sashastra Seema Bal) |
| E | ITBP (Indo Tibetan Border Police) |
| F | Assam Rifles |
| H | SSF (Secretariat Security Force) |
Final Merit & Force Allocation
Final selection, along with force allocation, is made on the basis of normalized CBE marks (including NCC bonus) separately for male and female, category-wise (UR, SC, ST, OBC, EWS, ESM), for each State / UT and its earmarked border guarding and militancy / Naxal districts. SSF is filled on an all-India basis.
Candidates selected on relaxed standards are counted against reserved vacancies only. Candidates, including reserved category ones, who qualify on their own merit are accommodated against unreserved vacancies. Final results of withheld candidates are handed to the nodal force (CRPF) in sealed cover / encrypted form and are declared by CRPF itself.
Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
| Event | Male | Female |
|---|---|---|
| Race (candidates other than Ladakh Region) | 5 Kms in 24 minutes | 1.6 Kms in 8½ minutes |
| Race (candidates of Ladakh Region) | 1.6 Kms in 7 minutes | 800 metres in 5 minutes |
Ex-Servicemen are exempted from PET/PST. They must still appear to record height, chest and weight, and they must qualify the medical examination. There is no appeal against the PET (race).
Females reporting for PET / PST give a self-declaration about pregnancy. A pregnant candidate is declared temporarily unfit and re-examined six weeks after confinement. Selected candidates may be posted anywhere in India. Candidates who score more than the cut-off but are not qualified for a later stage must represent their Regional Office within two months of the result or two weeks before the next stage, whichever is earlier.
